I wish to have both Activate and Deactivate voice features on Sierra Wireless Modem. Is it possible?

Some of my customers want to turn voice feature off.

for what reason they need it ?

Well, I guess they might want to bare IVR service as to avoid some extra cost charged by their operators. In fact, I sold aircards to them with voice activated, but they ask me if it can be disable? Just like that.

If there will more customers who need it, we will integrate "voice deactivate"

I agree with "Witten" - some of my clients also have asked for the "voice" feature to be activated too!

Would be nice to see a "Voice deactivate" feature on your next software release

 Yeah! I've got company now. I just pop up an idea... maybe you can make a poll asking members to cast their votes.

3 choices: 1. Agree 2. Disagree 3. Make no difference

Thanks

For Sierra 875U, 880U, 881U, MC8775, MC8780/81, when voice feature is activated, can we actually make/receive a phone call since they don't have available jack for headset? Or, we can just use laptop mic and speaker.

Please kindly advise.

DC-Unlocker guy's: Thank you for adding the Deactivate Voice feature in the latest dc-unlocker client software version 1.00.0252

can we actually make/receive a phone call since they don't have available jack for headset? Or, we can just use laptop mic and speaker. Some Dialogue Flybook laptops do support the voice feature function for the MC8775 WWAN module.

Just downloaded it. Thanks for your help adding "Deactivate Voice" feature. It's very helpful to me.

Also thanks to nok.8850 for your answer :)

I recently unlocked my Sierra Wireless Aircard 880U device. Prior to this I was unaware of the Voice Feature. Could someone please inform me what the Voice Feature can be used for?

Also, does it matter whether the voice feature is activated or deactivated?

I use SJPhone to make VOIP calls (normally through ADSL), however when I am travelling and use the usb modem, I am unable to make calls using SJPhone/VOIP, although I can sometimes receive calls. Would activating the voice feature allow calls to be made?

Finally, why is Skype unaffected when using the usb modem (voice feature deactivated)?

OK, would appreciate you help on any of the questions above.

Many thanks.:)

Voice feature is mainly useful for models with headset jack available (eg. AC850,860,875 and mini pci modules). With headset, you can use this feature to make/receive call like gsm phone. Other than that, it may be useful for IVR services (dependent to operators) like checking balance, etc.

Also, does it matter whether the voice feature is activated or deactivated?

No, it doesn't matter.

No, it's different thing. VOIP needs (hi-speed) internet connection as a media, but voice feature (as mentioned) is a direct call through operator.

Finally, why is Skype unaffected when using the usb modem (voice feature deactivated)?

Same as above.

OK, would appreciate you help on any of the questions above.

Many thanks.:)

Hope this helps!

i have unlocked the voice function on my AirCard 881, but I still cannot make phone calls from my laptop. The 3G watcher does show a phone dial pad, but when i dialed the number, it says "no headset". So what kind of headset is compatible with this card? I didn't find a headphone jack on the card, and customer service at sierra wireless told the AirCard 881 does not support voice. I am really comfused.

Are these pins on the MiniPCI-E card that are used for the headset? That would be a bit frustrating...I want to use my normal headset!

Which pins are they on the MiniPCI-E card, and is it possible to wire them into a netbook audio subsystem?

Not all notebooks support this feature. Dc unlocker enable the dial pad to do calls, but not all notebooks can support voice calls even if it is enabled on modem.

That's not at all helpful.

What permits certain notebooks to do voice? Are the headset pins hardwired to the soundcard or the landline-modem?

Which notebooks do you know of that can do voice?

I already know what the voice-enable feature does: I've made calls with it, just without audio!

Sorry, we have no information about what notebooks support voice feature.

And the second part of my question?

Can I wire certain pins from the MiniPCI-E header into the audio input/output jacks on my soundcard? Why wouldn't that work?

Sorry, we have no information about what notebooks support voice feature. Most current Dialogue Flybook's support Voice calls using the MC8775V's installed.

Can I wire certain pins from the MiniPCI-E header into the audio input/output jacks on my soundcard?I have been down this road with Sierra Wireless, who have point blank refused to entertain the pin layout of any of their Embedded modules.

Hmm...I think I've been a bit too antagonistic on this thread. Sorry! I just don't like it when people tell me I "can't" do something because it's "not supported."

I believe the pin layouts are probably the same for all MiniPCI-E internal 3G modems, so you might not even need to ask Sierra; Option and Novatel make voice-enabled cards as well. The real trick would be wiring the "headset" pins to the auxiliary inputs on the sound card to allow for volume control, etc. Since this is a netbook, I kind of wonder whether there even are any extra auxiliary inputs. That would also allow for the use of the internal speakers and mic.

Hi ,
I was asking myself if there is anybody who solved this important problem....
I'd like to use my netbook (Acer_AOA150bw) as a cellular phone...

Maybe somebody knows the How-TO......

Merry Christmas

Hi everybody ,

I'd like to say an happy New Year to all members of this Forum....

Furthermore, as I am very satisfied of my Acer AOA150bw with Sierra's MC 8781V, I'd like to say that I am willing to pay somebody who can help me to "hardwiring" the audio pinout of MC8781V to soundcard Input so that I can use my AOA150bw as cellular phone (with ext headset and micro).

Thanks who can help me to make this job.

Bye for now
