Ditto on this card, same card for different markets over the world but all locked to whichever carrier has done the deal with Sony in that country. Any news on this one?

I need Gobi2000 support :D

According to option homepage both "BIOS lock" and "SIM lock" are supported.
Can you deal with both?

Does anyone know what lock is used for Sony Vaio X?

is the Gobi UNDP-1 and Gobi2000 the same thing?I believe the Gobi UNDP-1 is Qualcomm's Gobi1000 (http://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi1000_overview.pdf) covering Tri-band HSPA/UMTS: 850/1900/2100 MHz (Usually unlocked) / Dual-band EV-DO/CDMA: 800/1900 MHz (usually locked to a network carrier) - The Gobi2000 (http://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi2000_overview.pdf) cover's two more HSPA/UMTS bands : 800 & 900MHz plus the EV-DO/CDMA bands as per the Gobi1000.

It is quite possible that both the Gobi1000 & 2000 utilize the same chipset with firmware locking out particular bands etc.

according to this thread you received the modem.
http://www.dc-unlocker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1168
so there is no quick win here...

The question is either to wait for your result or buy a GTM382.
Are you still working on this topic, can we expect some progress?

I receive my vaio x tomorrow, so I'm a bit impatient, sorry ;)

Still have no solution for this modem. Problem is that can find propper drivers for on to work on XP and can not test it. Maybe someone has drivers for this modem for XP windows and can send us? Write me a private message if have. Thank you in advance.

found a potential xp driver here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44914.exe

it is offered as driver for the HP Mini 110, the compatibility list claims "XP".

Also try Gobi 2000 drivers from Acer (http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=17&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1g.c2att92=122&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2980211862) - [Select Notebook > Aspire > Aspire 5810T then select download for 3G Module Driver for Gobi2000]

thanks nok. this driver looks good.

in fact it is similar to sony's driver found here (but holds a different set of firmware images):
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNP788K&upd_id=4910&os_id=44
(i assume also the sony driver works for others OS than claimed win7)

learned about firmware loading (QDLService2k) here:
http://blogs.6bit.com/josh/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/
and here:

hi vincentas,
the "loaded" firmware is in the according driver packages.
(if you need software to unpack the msi files I recommend total commander + www.totalcmd.net/plugring/InstallExplorer.html)
these files are arm linux binaries - most likely signed.

i found the sony and acer firmware for win7 to be different, sony's "oneclick internet" failed with acer firmware, with correct firmware it says "insert sim card" but i read it as "insert correct simcard matching simlock".

more interesting will be the bootsrap "loader" firmware, i currently assume it implements signature check and simlock.

Hi,
I purchased a qualcomm gobi 2000 from digi.com but did not get software with it. I had a qualcomm undp1 that came with my acer aspire one AO531H netbook so I thought it would be an easy upgrade ( no) I also upgraded to Windows 7 home basic from XP. I did expect the drivers to install but microsoft could not find the software to allow the module to be recognized.
I did download from Acer all the drivers and such for windows 7 but still no luck. all it shows is that I need software.
Can anyone help with this problem.
Also would the software have to come from the 3g carriers like AT&T or is there an unlock software I can use as Qualcomm doesn't have a software download site that I can find.
hoping to get the card working.

Hello nok.8850,

I bought one unlocked UNDP-1 on Ebay but I can't use it ,,the device ask for the HS-USB driver, but which one! because the Sony HS-USB modem driver and Gobi image they are already installed,
than after 3 hours I quit with.

while the laptop was open I tryed the UNDP-1 I found originally into my US Sony Vaio Z790DLX ...............SURPRISE! I got connection with my TIM ITALIA sim card,
so nok.8850 ..you are right!
only the EV-DO/CDMA is Verizon locked or MAYBE NOT! because I can only verify once I am back to US.

now my question is:

what should I do with the unlocked UNDP-1 and the unlocked GOBI2000 I have bought?
any way in order to make them compatible with my Vaio Z790DLX with Windows 7 64bit?

HELP!

Hi thepinkpanter

Good to hear you have at least one Gobi installed & working - :)

OK, so you have 2 modules that do not work within your US Sony Vaio Z790DLX... You could resell them on eBay or other forum members here.

Do you know which notebook manufacturer the Gobi modules were intended for? HP, Dell, Lenovo? If you knew, did you install the correct drivers & utility software?

honestly I didn't even tryed because I found one forum where somebody got many problems because the driver brand was different.

Hi Guys - i picked up a UK version of this great machine.

the 3G seemed to be locked to Orange - which was no good for me, i was playing about - if I install the following:

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/info/info.aspx?l=en_GB&url=VAIO/Original/WWAN_Connection manager_R5_Generic_ENU_1.x_32bit_64bit_E_1.0_1.0.0 .1_ENU.zip&m=VPCX11S1E_B&ip=Preinstalled_Drivers.htm

It allowed me to use any chip I want - all i need to do is set up the profile with correct APN.

I may just be doing something very obvious, so apologies if thats the case... but thought I'd post just in case anyone else was in the same boat... I assume it will work on the other regional units as well.

Hope it helps,

Nick
